Open to companies and sole traders

.Business Domain Registration

Your business name is probably taken on .com, and a hyphenated version is hard to say over the phone. A .business address keeps the name you trade under and adds a word everyone understands. WinsHosting registers .business domains for Pakistani SMEs, traders and start-ups, invoiced in rupees with local support.

Why the .business extension exists

For most of the internet's history, a company that wanted a commercial address had two choices: .com, which ran out of short names long ago, or .biz, which was introduced as an alternative but never quite shook off an abbreviated feel. The .business extension spells the word out in full. It was launched by Donuts as part of ICANN's new gTLD programme and today sits within the Identity Digital portfolio.

Registration is open. A private limited company registered with the SECP, a partnership, a sole trader with only an NTN, or someone who has not yet formalised their trade can all hold a .business. There is no document check, and the name is active within minutes of payment.

That openness matters in Pakistan, where small and medium enterprises make up most of the private sector and many of them trade without a website at all. A wholesaler in Shah Alam Market, a garment exporter in Faisalabad, an accounting practice in Islamabad and a catering company in Hyderabad all share the same need: a credible address for email, quotations and a simple company profile.

Our earlier page on this extension slipped in references to .hotel and other unrelated names. This version is about .business only. We cover what it costs, how to buy and register it, how it compares with .com and .biz, and how small firms can put it to work. WinsHosting, operating from Johar Town in Lahore since 2003, handles the order, the DNS and your renewals in rupees.

Setting Up a .business Domain for an SME

A short list for traders and small firms moving their online presence onto a .business address.

  • Register the exact trading name shown on your shop board and invoices
  • Create named mailboxes such as accounts@ and orders@ on the .business domain
  • Update the email address used with suppliers, banks and the FBR portal
  • List the .business website on your Google Business Profile and map pin
  • Add NTN or SECP details to the site footer where they apply
  • Print the new address on letterheads, visiting cards and delivery slips
  • Redirect any older free blog or social page link to the new site
  • Set auto-renew so the domain never lapses during a busy trading season

What a .business domain does for a growing company

These are the ways a .business address tends to pay its way for Pakistani firms in the first year.

Keep your trading name on .business

If "Al-Noor Traders" is taken on .com, <em>alnoortraders.business</em> may well be free. You keep the name customers already use instead of inventing a new one or adding confusing hyphens and numbers.

Company email on .business

Create addresses such as accounts@ and sales@ on your .business domain. Suppliers, banks and overseas buyers take a company email more seriously than a free webmail address, especially on invoices and purchase orders.

A .business profile that sells

A short site with your products, clients, certifications and contact details answers the questions a buyer asks before placing an order. It works around the clock, including when your office is closed for Friday prayers or Eid.

Move .business when you grow

Start with a simple page and move to a larger hosting plan, a VPS or a different platform later. The address stays the same, so printed letterheads and catalogues never go out of date.

Budget-friendly .business pricing

Costing Rs 3,000 for year one and carrying no setup fee, a .business is cheaper than a box of printed visiting cards. Pay locally through a bank, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and check the renewal rate before you order.

When .business Beats a Hyphenated .com

Picture a Faisalabad textile trader called Noor Fabrics. The .com is gone, so the web designer suggests noor-fabrics-pk.com. Every time the owner reads it out on a call, the customer asks where the dashes go, and emails bounce because someone typed it without them.

With noorfabrics.business, the name stays intact and the ending explains itself. It is easier to say, easier to print on a delivery van and harder to mistype. For firms selling inside Pakistan, a .com.pk alongside it adds a clear local signal.

The point is not that .business is better than .com in general, but that a clean name on a newer ending usually beats a cluttered name on an old one.

.business Domain Price in Pakistan

Registering a .business name with WinsHosting costs Rs 3,000 for the opening year, which is the .business domain price in Pakistan we charge. That is less than many firms spend on a single newspaper classified, and unlike an advert, the domain keeps working every day of the year.

Renewal is priced from the registry's annual wholesale cost and has typically been a little higher than the opening year. We show the renewal amount in the cart and on the invoice before you pay, so there is no surprise twelve months later. Firms that prefer predictable budgets often prepay three or five years; the maximum is ten.

Like most registries, the .business operator reserves some short or generic words as premium names, which are priced individually. If your search shows a figure far above Rs 3,000, that is the reason. Our team can confirm whether a premium also applies to renewals before you decide.

The registration includes DNS management, URL forwarding, domain masking, the control panel and the registrar lock, with no extra fees for those tools. You can pay the .business domain price with a deposit at HBL, Standard Chartered or Bank Alfalah, via JazzCash or Easypaisa, by card or through PayPal. Your accounts team receives a proper rupee invoice for the books, which reconciles far more easily than a dollar card charge that shifts with the exchange rate and attracts bank fees.

Buy .business Domain

Before you buy a .business domain, settle on the exact name. Use the name printed on your letterhead, shop board or SECP certificate if it is short enough to type comfortably. Drop words like "Private Limited", "and Co" or "Enterprises" unless they are essential to how people recognise you.

Next, check for clashes. Search the name on Google and in the trademark journal if you can. A name that closely matches a well-known brand invites trouble, and it confuses customers even if no one complains.

Decide who will hold the domain. In a company, register it to the business, with a director's email as the account contact. Avoid registering company domains in the name of an IT employee or outside freelancer, because staff move on and access can be lost.

When you buy the .business domain from us, ordering takes a few minutes: search, add to cart, enter the owner's details and pay in rupees. You can then point it to shared hosting for a website and email, connect it to an email service you already use, or forward it to an existing site.

Finally, protect related names. Many firms also register their brand on .com.pk so that local customers and competitors cannot trade on it, and redirect the extra name to the main site.

Register .business Domain Name

To register a .business domain name, start with a label of one to 63 characters. You may use letters, numbers and hyphens, but not a hyphen at the very start or end. Case does not matter, so the address can be printed in capitals on signage and in lower case in email signatures.

You can choose a registration term of anywhere between one and ten years. During checkout we collect the registrant's name, company, postal address, email and phone number. Together these make up the public registration record, and ICANN obliges each registrar to keep it correct. If the company's details change, such as a new office address, update the record from the client area.

Shortly after the order, a verification email is sent to the registrant address. Click the link within the time it states. A .business left unverified may be suspended, which stops the website and company email until it is confirmed.

The name then appears in your client area, where you manage nameservers, DNS records, forwarding, masking, private nameservers and contact details. Auto-renew can be set there too.

To bring a .business from another registrar, unlock it, collect the authorisation code and submit a transfer request. Once the move finishes, one extra year is added onto the current expiry. A name that changed hands or was newly registered in the past 60 days must wait for that period to end before moving.

.business Domain for Small Business

A .business domain for small business owners does its best work when the website behind it is short, accurate and easy to act on. Most SMEs in Pakistan do not need a large site. They need five or six pages that answer the questions buyers keep asking.

A good structure is simple. The home page says what you sell or do, for whom, and in which cities. A products or services page lists the main items with photos and, where possible, prices or price ranges. An about page gives the year you started, key people and any registrations or certifications you actually hold. A contact page shows your address, phone, WhatsApp and a map.

Small firms often skip two things that matter. One is speed on mobile: most visitors arrive on a phone, often on mobile data, so images should be compressed and pages light. The other is trust detail: a real address, a landline where you have one, and names of real people help buyers who are about to send an advance payment.

Use the small business domain for every customer touchpoint. Put it on invoices, delivery challans, packaging, vehicle stickers and WhatsApp Business profiles. Send all quotations from the domain email. Over time, consistent use builds recognition, and customers who search for your firm by name will find a site you control rather than an old directory listing.

.business Domain vs .com

The .business domain vs .com question comes up in almost every enquiry we receive about this extension. The honest answer is that .com is still the most familiar ending worldwide, and if the exact .com for your name is available at a fair price, it is a strong choice. The problem is that it rarely is.

Most short, meaningful .com names were registered years ago, many by people who are not using them. Business owners then face a choice: pay a high price to buy the .com from its current owner, add words or hyphens until a version is free, or choose another extension. A .business name often lets you keep the cleanest version of your name.

Search engines do not rank .com above .business simply because of the ending. Google treats new generic extensions like any other, so your rankings depend on content, speed, links and reputation. Where .com still has an edge is habit: some customers type .com automatically, so tell them the full address clearly.

There is also .biz to consider. It is older and well known, but some people see it as an abbreviation. The .business ending reads as a complete word and is harder to mistype. Many Pakistani firms settle the .business vs .com debate by registering both and pointing one at the other, so every version leads to the same website.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an NTN or SECP registration to register a .business domain?

No. The registry does not ask for tax or company documents, so you can register a .business as an individual or an unregistered trader. Banks, payment gateways and some marketplaces may ask for business documents when you connect them to your website, but that is separate from owning the domain.

Can I use a .business domain for a freelancing or consultancy service?

Yes. Freelancers and consultants often use .business to look established when pitching to companies. A name such as yourname.business can host a service menu, case studies and a booking form. If your work is very personal, compare it with a personal-name option such as .me.

Will customers trust an email address ending in .business?

Most do, as long as the email is set up properly and the messages are professional. Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records so your mail is authenticated, and keep the website live so customers who check the domain see a real company. Our team can add the email records for you.

Can I connect a .business domain to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?

Yes. Both services ask you to verify the domain and add MX and other DNS records. You can do this in our control panel, or send us the values they provide and we will add them. Keep the website records unchanged if your site is hosted with us.

Is a .business domain good for an export company dealing with foreign buyers?

It can be. Overseas buyers look for a professional website and company email before placing orders, and .business reads clearly in English. Exporters often also hold a .com.pk to show Pakistani origin. Make sure the site lists your products, capacity and certifications, and offers an English contact form.

Can I register several .business domains for different product brands?

Yes. You can register as many .business names as you need and manage them from one account. Each can point to its own website or redirect to a page on your main site. Grouping them in one account also gives you a single renewal calendar so none expires by accident.

What happens to my website and email if my .business domain expires?

They stop working soon after the expiry date, because the domain no longer points to your hosting and mail servers. There is a grace window to renew at the usual price, after which a higher restoration fee applies, and eventually the name is released. Auto-renew is the simplest safeguard.

Can I change the owner of a .business domain when the company is sold?

Yes. The registrant details can be updated to the new owner through the client area, which may require confirmation from the current registrant email. If the buyer uses another registrar, provide them with the authorisation code so they can transfer the name to their own account.
